5 Skin Care Things You Should Do Daily

Your skin is an organ that regenerates over time, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do what you can to protect it and prevent damage from things such as the sun and the weather. There are things you can do in your daily routine to help protect your skin and prevent damage, and these things won't take up too much of your time.

Read below for skin care tips and tasks to add to your daily skincare routine.

Wash Your Face Twice a Day

You should wash your face in the morning when you shower with a mild facial cleanser and warm water, then rinse in cool water (cool water closes your pores and can prevent acne). Some cleansers may be too harsh and can dry out your skin. If your skincare cleanser is drying your face out too much, find a new cleanser (one for sensitive skin).

Dry skin can cause your skin to produce more oil to prevent the dryness, which may result in acne from the excess oil production.

Wash your face before bed to remove any makeup. Sleeping in makeup can clog your pores, which can lead to blackheads or even acne. Use makeup remover pads or wipes to remove as much makeup as possible, then follow it up with your gentle cleanser.

Use Toner & Moisturizer at Night

Apply toner to your face at night to keep your skin taught and firm and to help prevent wrinkles. Apply the toner to your under-eyes, forehead and around the mouth where wrinkles and fine lines are more prevalent.

Applying moisturizer at night can help improve your skin's texture and prevent dryness. Use a sheer moisturizer to protect your delicate skin. In winter months especially, your skin may dry out even more than usual with the low humidity in the air. Use a facial moisturizer that moisturizes without clogging your pores.

Protect Your Skin During the Day

During the day, it's all about protecting your skin from the elements and the sun's harmful rays. Use a sheer facial sunscreen to protect against UV-A and UV-B rays, even in cold-weather months. The sun still shines in these months too, although it may not be quite as harsh, it can still cause damage to your skin.

Apply a daily sunscreen when out in the sun no matter which season to protect against sun damage - fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots and skin cancer.

Eat & Drink Healthy

What you put into your body eventually shows on the outside of your body. If you aren't eating anything but junk, it's going to eventually show in your skin (and your body). Greasy foods can make for oily skin and lack of water can cause dry skin.

Drink plenty of water each day (at least 8 - 10 glasses of water or more), and eat plenty of clean foods in your diet (fresh fruits and veggies). This can play a big role in your skin tone, texture and elasticity. Make a change in your diet and take note of the change in your skin.

Just as eating and drinking a healthy diet can improve your skin, exercise can also improve your skin as well. Exercise at least 15 - 20 minutes per day. Work up a good sweat and clean out those pores.

Exercise can improve your entire well-being, as well as improve your skin. It can also add years to your life. Find the time to exercise, even if it's while watching your favorite television show.

Your skin may regenerate, but you should still do whatever you can to help protect and even improve your skin. Talk to your dermatologist today at Associated Dermatologists to discuss any skin issues you may be experiencing and other tips to improve and protect your skin.
